DTV

I can't resist the urge to rant about the DTV transition...

Chris Snyder, writing for Wired quotes Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller

"I've long believed that there is too much at stake for consumers and for public safety to simply cross our fingers and hope for the best when it comes to the digital television transition," Rockfefeller said Thursday. "Millions of Americans could be left in the dark if this doesn't go smoothly." http://blog.wired.com/business/2009/01/obama-urges-dtv.html
I say, those millions of Americans are already in the dark if they are not ready for the switch.

What exactly is at stake anyway? I don't recall TV ever being a right in the United States.
